Priocyphus Hustache was revised by Lanteri (1990b) and is closely related to Priocyphopsis (Lanteri & del Río 2016). It mainly differentiates from the latter because the humeri lack a tooth-like tubercle, the prementum has long setae on the external face, same as Cyrtomon species and eyes are almost flat.
Priocyphus bosqi is the type species of Priocyphus, a genus endemic to central Argentina and Paraguay. Mouthparts were described in Díaz et al. (1990a) and characters of the vestiture, by Coscarón et al. (1991).
The first instar larva of P. bosqi was described by Marvaldi & Loiácono (1994), and eggs and oviposition type were studied by Marvaldi (1999).
It causes damage to alfalfa Medicago sativa L. (Fabaceae) in La Pampa and Córdoba provinces (Lanteri 1994), and is also associated with Glycine max (L.) Merr. (Fabaceae) and Gossypium hirsutum L. (Malvaceae) (Lanteri et al. 2002a).
It is associated with native vegetation of Pampean and Espinal biogeographic provinces, the latter mainly characterized by Acacia caven L. (= Vachellis caven) (Fabaceae).
