"García & Ronderos (1962) and Carcavallo & Martínez (1968b) do not indicate where and when the collections were made in Entre Ríos province. Knight & Stone (1977) recorded An. medialis [An. intermedius] as far south as Brazil but not in Argentina. Peyton et al. (1983) recorded it from Bolivia." (Mitchell & Darsie, 1985).

Anopheles intermedius (Chagas, 1908) was changed to Anopheles medialis Harbach, 2018, as follows: "New replacement names are proposed here for the following three junior secondary homonyms (of presumed valid taxa) that do not qualify for retention of prevailing usage, and for which synonymous names are not available. Replacement names were chosen whose derivations have meanings similar to the original names.
intermedius (Chagas, 1908), recognized as a species of Anopheles (Anopheles) [original combination: Cycloleppteron intermedium], is the junior secondary homonym of intermedia Rothwell, 1907 [original combination: Neocellia intermedia = Anopheles (Cellia) stephensi Liston, 1901], and thus requires areplacement name; it is also the junior secondary homonym of intermedius Shingarev, 1928. Herewith, medialis nomen novum is proposed to replace intermedius (Chagas, 1908); henceforth, Anopheles (Anopheles) medialis Harbach. Etymology: medialis, L. of or belonging to the middle."
