"This species was placed in synonymy under Coquillettidia nigricans by Lane (1951) and resurrected as a valid species by Belkin et al. (1970). Undoubtedly, some of the records for nigricans cited by Castro et al. (1959 (1960)) are referrable to this species. Knight & Stone (1977) listed this species only from Brazil" (Mitchell & Darsie, 1985).
Larva, pupa, and female unknown.
Eggs usually adhere to aquatic plants and larvae get air from them. Adults are large, aggressive biters and mostly zoophilic, but opportunistic in their preferences.
