"Knight & Stone (1977) questioned the occurrence of this species in Argentina or indeed in southern South America at all. Belkin et al. (1970) pointed out the ease with which the females of Coquillettidia nigricans can be confused with those of Coquillettidia venezuelensis and suggested that nigricans is confined to northern South America while venezuelensis is the widespread species on the continent." (Mitchell & Darsie, 1985).
