Earlier Argentine literature referred to this species as either Toxorhynchites tucumanus Bréthes or Toxorhynchites arborealis Shannon & Del Ponte, both of which were synonymized by Lane (1953) with guadaloupensis Mitchell and Darsie (1985).
Immature stages were extracted from phytotelmata of Aechmea distichantha along with larvae of Ochlerotatus crinifer, Nyssorhynchus argyritarsis, Culex coronator, Culex fernandezi, and Culex imitator as well as from tree holes and internodes of the giant bamboo.
