E. oblongus differentiates from E. fallax mainly by the flat eyes and the strongly truncate-conical pronotum. It is flightless and males are very scarce reason why is considered parthenogenetic, at least in part of its range (Lanteri & Normark 1995).
First instar and mature larvae of E. oblongus have been described by Marvaldi (1998).
A key to species of Eurymetopus was given by Lanteri (1984).
