It was experimentally confirmed that this species is a vector of Spiroplasma kunkelii, one of the pathogens causing the "corn stunt" disease, a disease that limits corn production in various regions of the United States and Latin America (Carloni et al. 2011; Virla et al. 2004).
Natural enemies: a predatory mite (Astigmata), three egg parasitoids (1 Mymaridae and 2 Trichogrammatidae), and six species that parasitize their nymphs and adults (4 Dryinidae, 1 Pipunculidae, and 1 Halictophagidae) (Virla 2000).
It is among the species most frequently recorded in cereal crops (corn, oats, barley and wheat) and the associated weed communities throughout the Argentine Republic (Virla 1990; Remes Lenicov et al. 2004). It has also been documented in rice and its accompanying vegetation (Paradell et al. 2014), as well as in cotton, sugarcane, beans, sorghum, citrus (Remes Lenicov et al. 2004), tomato, and pepper (Álvarez et al. 2021).
