It is distributed in North America, Central America (Nicaragua, Panama, Bahamas, Cuba, Puerto Rico), and South America (Colombia, Bolivia, and Argentina). Additionally, it is found in the Palearctic, Afrotropical, Australian, and Pacific regions (Wilson & Claridge 1991, Linnavuori 1959).

Recorded on rice crops (Oryza sativa) in Egypt (Ammar et al. 1978) and on spontaneous vegetation associated with maize cultivation in Tucumán, Argentina (Paradell et al. 2014).
