Inhabiting small rivers in mountainous areas (Mazzucconi & Bachmann 1995); mostly of slow to medium current, without vegetation (Bachmann 1963). The species is fairly common and apparently not gregarious; both the apterous and the macropterous morphs are found, the latter usually with broken wings (Mazzucconi & Bachmann 1995).
