Inhabiting borders of slow flowing rivers in plains, and their overflows. A fairly rare species, sometimes living within aggregations of Halobatopsis platensis, suggesting gregarious habits, but not forming dense aggregations when it is the sole species in the pool. Both the apterous and the macropterous morphs were found, the latter usually with broken wings (Mazzucconi & Bachmann 1995).
