Culex apicinus ha sido listado por su sinónimo, Culex debilis Dyar & Knab por Martínez et al. (1961b) y Bianchini et al. 1965 (1967), según Mitchell & Darsie (1985).

Culex apicinus no se alimenta sobre los humanos, probablemente se alimenta de perros, gatos o mamíferos de granja. Se recolectaron estadso inmaduros durante todo el año, excepto junio y julio, de temporales a permanentes, naturales (charcos cerca de ríos originados por lluvias o desbordamientos, bordes de arroyos, cuerpos de agua entre rocas, agujeros en las rocas) y artificiales (canales de irrigación domiciliarios, tanques de agua, zanjas, charcos) los habitat de las larvas incluyendo el agua tratada con sulfato de cloro.
