"The type locality of this species is Las Palmas, Chaco (Duret 1969; Knight & Stone 1977). Specimens of delpontei collected by Duret in Argentina prior to its recognition as a distinct species were identified as Culex paracrybda (Duret 1953a, b; 1954b)." (Mitchell & Darsie, 1985).
Disease relations: Several virus strains were isolated from this species in northern Argentina. The Antequera, Barranqueras, Resistencia and Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis (VEEV) viruses were isolated from specimens of Culex delpontei between 1977 and 1980 in Chaco Province (Mitchell et al., 1985). The VEEV and several Bunyaviridae were isolated from specimens collected in Chaco and Santa Fe provinces, showing that this species is a possible vector in enzootic patterns of these viruses. In addition, the great number of virus isolates suggested the possibility of transovarian transmission (Mitchell et al., 1985; 1987).
Immature stages were collected in river, river edges and stream margin in modified environment and urban areas. The breeding sites were always permanent, in full-sun. The water was fresh, clear with slow current and floating plants (Pistia), submerged and emergent vegetation, and scarce green algae.
