Larva and pupa unknown.
Disease relations: Western Equine Encephalitis virus has been isolated from specimens identified as Mansonia spp, in Santa Fe Province between 1982 and 1983 (Sabattini et al., 1998). Females of Mansonia humeralis were found naturally infected by Mayaro virus, they were collected in chicken coops of rural communities in Rondônia, Brazil while performing blood-feeding on roosters.
Eggs usually adhere to aquatic plants and larvae get air from them. Adults are large, aggressive biters and mostly zoophilic, but opportunistic in their preferences.
