Belkin et al. (1970) suggested that the ciliata from South America, south of the Guianas probably is different from populations to the north. They had no specimens to determine, for example, whether Psorophora lynchi Brethes was different. Pending furter study, lynchi will remain a synonym of ciliata. The type locality of lynchi is Buenos Aires (Belkin et al. 1968; Knight & Stone 1977)." (Mitchell & Darsie, 1985).
Disease relations: unknown.
Females are large and aggressive, attacking at any time, and inflicting a painful injury. The females are persistent biters and attack humans at any time of the day in the vicinity of their breeding sites. The immature stages of this species have been collected in open sunlit temporary pools or flooded margins of swamps at ground level. The larvae are predaceous on other medically important mosquito larvae and develop very rapidly.
