Observations
guarani Lane, 1946b: 221 (pupa, male, female). Type locality: Brazil, São Paulo, Cantareira. HT F (DEFS). Distr.- Brazil (São Paulo, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro), Paraguay, Argentina (Misiones: PN Iguazú, 25º39'S, 54º18'W). Refs.: Ronderos et.al, 2004Campos et al., 2011: 115.
The larva is described and illustrated from Palpomyia guarani Lane, 1946 using a Phase Contrast Microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope. Pupa and adult are redescribed using Phase Contrast Microscope. Immature states were captured in Bella Vista, Paraguay, in a tree hollow, where they develop. Larva presents typical characteristics of carnivorous larvae. The species is cited for the first time for Paraguay, and is compared to its similar generic Palpomyiacolumbiana Kieffer
