Marino et al, (2013) re described the pupa of Culicoides insignis. This is illustrated and photographed using binocular microscope, phase-contrast stereoscope at oil immersion and SEM. Larva was poorly described Forattini (1956, 1957).

Culicoides insignis is an abundant species in Argentina, it is considered as a potential transmitter of "Bluetongue virus" (BTV) in the Neotropical region, which mainly affects sheep, cattle, goats and other ruminants wild.
