A recent study has shown that three species comprise the Xylophanes porcus group: X. alineae, X. porcus, and X. soaresi (Haxaire & mielke, 2018). Thus, previous records of X. porcus for Argentina correspond to X. alineae. Distinguished from other members of the Xylophanes porcus group by its smaller wingspan, the pinkish antenna and genitalia morphology.
