Geadephaga is a natural group of the suborder Adephaga (Coleoptera) that includes
Carabidae, Cicindelidae, and Trachypachidae. This Geadephaga catalog of Argentina
presents updated information about the species found in our country, their synonymic
list, photographs of their habit, and where such photographs are unavailable, drawings.
It also includes information about their environment or natural history characteristics, as
well as their distribution in each province where they have been observed. The compiled
information for this purpose has been gathered over nearly 40 years of personal
research, with much of it coming from materials deposited in museums, institutes, and
other collections. Some of the information also comes from publications by other
researchers, both national and international. As of the most recent update in 2023, a
total of 979 species of Geadephaga have been recorded for Argentina, but this number
is far from definitive. Due to the large number of species, in this first stage of the
catalog, the families Trachypachidae and Carabidae will be included, with all subfamilies
of the latter except Trechinae and Harpalinae.
