En Drake (1936) se cita por primera vez a la especie para la Argentina en la provincia de Misiones, posteriormente Monte (1938) la cita para la provincia del Chaco, Kormilev (1955) para Salta y Guilbert & Montemayor (2010) para Jujuy. En Drake & Poor (1937) hay una ilustración del holotipo de la especie y en Drake & Davis (1960) también hay una ilustración de Sphaerocysta inflata . Guidoti & Montemayor (2014) desarrollan una clave para determinar las especies de Sphaerocysta .
