La especie está ilustrada en Froeschner (1995) y fotografiada en Maes & Knudson (2016). También existe una clave para la determinación de las especies de Acanthocheila (Froeschner, 1995). Acanthocheila armigera es frecuentemente mencionada en la literatura porque ocasiona daños en plantas de los géneros Nicotiana , Ouratea , y Pisonia (Stonedahl et al. 1992; Neal & Schaeffer 2000; Guidoti et al, 2015). Hay registro de un Hymenoptero Mymaridae, Erythmelus vladimir , parasitoide de los huevos de A. armigera (Triapitsyn & Fidalgo, 2001).
