Bufonacris claraziana is poliphagous and voracious. It consumes practically any material that encounters, from the tender grasses of the "mallines" (low, most areas) where hatchings take place to the harder grasses of the arid patagonian steppe (Stipa, Festuca) and even sometimes the lower branches of shrubs (Berberis, Senecio). Both hoppers and adults are markedly migratory, despite being apterous, and leave their valleys of origin, climbing the hills and descending into other valleys where they destroy the vegetation in a short time (Liebermann, 1958, authors observations).
Alfalfa, horticultural and fruit plants.
