It is possible that some of the references are actually referring to Baeacris pseudopunctulata, a very similar species in appearance that can only be distinguished from B. punctulatus by the characteristics of the male genitalia. It is found in a great variety of habitats, from relatively arid grasslands with scattered vegetation to temperate habitats with more dense vegetation.
Baeacris punctulata was present in 77% of the samples coming from 12 sites in western Buenos Aires and eastern La Pampa provinces monitored between 1994-99, constituting one of the five most widely distributed species, albeit at low abundance values (Cigliano et al., 2000).
Poliphagous. Unespecified dicotyledoneous and gramineous plants, natural pastures, alfalfa, beans, tobacco, cotton.
